Life has been hectic and introspection has been quite INtrospective. I have done a lot of reflection, but haven’t been able to gather those thoughts in a written format. As a consequence many have been lost. And if it s an argument that not everything that shines is gold, the fact is that I feel it is beneficial for me to jot down my impressions about the latest events… if for nothing else, at least for the fact that they will be a record of my experiences which otherwise my memory will forget. Furthermore, they are indeed relevant… at least to me and my learning venture. They might also be of some interest to others…who knows!?

But in short, what has happen lately?
Besides coming up with the most idealist - absurd, for some - ideas about how we could try to innovate education in general - dreaming is pne of my specialties :-), I have been rather busy with some projects, mainly related with teacher training. Putting such workshops together is quite demanding; facilitating them is just GREAT FUN!

I have been moderating one in Salford in Blended  format. It is going OK, but not as OK as I had hoped. Some people engage, others lurks and the rest has just vanished from cyber-land…! I am not sure why this is so ….or better: I don’t feel like stating what seems to be the obvious or the easier explanation. However, it has been a good experience. Those who have allowed themselves to be part of it in an active way seem to be enjoying it and also giving a new “touch” to their practice. It is great to see people’s progress and how each new achievement brings a new smile of victory attached to it. It just reminds me how much I like to be a learning facilitator and how much it delights me to see others grow. I grow with them too. That is where all the magic of being an educator lies: in the learning!

I also co-facilitated an online workshop on voice tools for Canadian teachers through knowschools . I am not sure if I can continue to say that I have never been to Canada. In fact, I was there in soul during that week, although my body remained in the UK. It was an incredible experience. Ramona and I had great fun. The teachers were enthusiastic and curious about the possibilities. We created video mails, Vokis and voice threads. Most teachers reciprocated in these creations, having some been immediately applied in the classroom. Podcasts for students to listen in their mp3 and made-by-student- podcast shows about the life of insects were some ideas which facilitators and workshops developed collaboratively. ..

Last week, it was time for some face to face action. This time in Italy! I have to thank Graham Attwell, Elmo de Angelis and all the people involved for making this possible. What a great group I came to meet!! It was a wonderful experience to be able to meet a very international group of people interested in developing expertise about Open and Distance Learning. As in many other experiences, the face to face contact time was not enough. It was in fact too little. Hours flew by just like this. At least they did for me. It just reminds me once again how I like to be in contact with people and share with them the little I know. It feels good. It sure feels right too.

Above all, I have been having loads of fun with all these projects.
Now it is time to go back to the office again. Papers pile up on the desk…it is time to write up unfinished articles, prepare reports, develop other projects…
I can hardly wait to engage in more situations as the ones mentioned above. They are all different, but all equally challenging. I love to communicate with people… to be exposed to their queries and try to come up with just-for-this-case solutions, and thus learn with and from all members involved. I don’t have definite or perfect answers, as you may all have noticed by now, but “I have in me all the dreams of the world” [By Fernando Pessoa]
Or as the same poet once said: “All is worthwhile if the soul is not small.”
I want to believe mine is not that narrow minded… anyway!

Deshalb war es mir eine Überraschung, dass ich ein Kommentar auf einem deutschsprachigen Blog-Eintrag bekommen habe. Noch überraschender war das, dass die Autorin (so wie ich) Deutsch als fremdsprache benutzt - und trotzdem ein Blog-Eintrag schreiben wagt. Ich habe es einfacher gesehen, mein Antwort auf Cristinas Fragen auf Englisch zu formulieren - in unsere Diskussion ging es doch mehr über die allgemeine Entwicklungsprinzipien und Verwendungsstratgien in den Einsatz von e-Portfolios. In diesem Zusammenhang ist es nötig, die besondere Bedingungen der deutschen Berufsausbildung (dualität, Lernortkooperation, Zusammenspiel zwischen des betrieblichen und schulischen Lernens …) noch im Blickfeld zu bringen.

In der Zwischenzeit ist unsere Projektvorbereitung einStück weiter gegangen. Deshab werde ich demnächst einige Aspekte von unserem Projekt-Design diskutueren und die entsprechende Funktionen/Anwendungen der freefolio-Plattform analysieren. Dadurch versuche ich auch die besondere Anknüpfungspunkte für den Einsatz der digitalen Medien in der beruflichen Bildung und Qualifizierung im Konzept zu bringen (z.B. die Fragen um ‘Lernfelder’, ‘Leitprojekte’ ‘Lern- und Arbeitsaufgaben’, und ‘Lernen in Lernortverbund’).

Ich glaube, dass das genug für eine Absichtsrklärung ist. Demnächst werde ich in meine deutschsprachigen Einträge an konkrete Fragen in unserem Projekt-Design und an die Potenzial von freeflio konzentrieren.
